SUMMARYWyman Gordon Pennsylvania, a division of Precision Castparts Corporation (PCC), is a manufacturing leader of Flash Welded and Cold Rolled near net shaped rings for the Aerospace Gas Turbine Industry. The Metallurgist will support Quality and Manufacturing. The Metallurgist will establish controls on raw material purchases and for laboratory testing to customer and industry requirements. They will have direct involvement in Process Control Welding Initiative in regards to establishing controls and parameters in concert with Engineering and Manufacturing Supervision. The alloys involved are primarily Ni and Co Base alloys with some Titanium and Iron Base aerospace alloys
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe metallurgist will support Quality and Manufacturing processes.
Review specifications for raw material purchases.
Direct involvement in manufacturing Process Control.
Work with suppliers to improve Metallurgical and quality performance.
Determine root cause for product test failures and customer issues.
Maintain specification data base for product testing requirements
Conducts internal and external process audits, as required.
Obtain and analyze test data to support capability analysis and process improvement initiatives. Documents results of investigations and studies.
Deliver company benefit by reducing the Cost of Poor Quality and Scrap for Grain Size Failures from the 2024 baseline.
Become familiar and utilize continuous improvement and lean manufacturing skills to drive improved business performance.
Direct Involvement and ownership in the Nadcap Heat Treat Audit.
Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITESRole has no direct supervisory responsibility. Plant Metallurgist will report to the Quality Manager but will need strong teamwork skills to work laterally across the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATIONBS in Metallurgical/Materials Engineering
Ability to interpret industry and customer specifications.
The Following are desirableExperience with Stainless, Nickel alloys, Titanium
Hot Forming and Laboratory experience
Nadcap and AS 9100 requirements knowledge
Aerospace experience preferred
Familiarity with metallurgic test method – Reading & Interpreting Grain Size Maps, Macro & Micro Etch evaluation, Stress Rupture, Low & High Cycle Fatigue testing.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this position the employee is occasionally required to walk and stand for long periods while monitoring operations, using hands to fell or touch and reach with the arms and hands and occasionally to stoop or kneel. Much time will be spent sitting in an office environment requiring frequent computer use. Employee may be required to occasionally lift up to 25lbs and the employee’s vision must meet industry standards for acuity and color.
