Position Summary
Magellan Aerospace, Greyabbey has an exciting opportunity for a temporary (3 months) Bench Operator.
- Full Time, 3 Month Temporary Contract
- 38hr Day Shift position - Monday to Friday
- Job location: Greyabbey, BT22 2QE.
- Unionised site – works in partnership with Unite the Union.
To ensure the post machining operation of benching to the required specification (including de-burring, fettle, buffing, filing, etc.)
- To ensure surface finish on all parts in accordance with SOP and specification
- Confirm all job card operations are complete according to QMS and MOS requirements
- Communicate all productivity issues and constraints to the Bench Team Lead
- Complete required benching processes in accordance to Production schedules
- Ensure all operations are correctly recorded through EFACS to manage productivity
- Assess risks associated with activities to make sure they are safe and compliant

Essential Responsibilities
Bench Operations
- Ensure correct benching of components, including removal of sharp edges, cleaning of holes, using an orbital sander, and hand de-burring to drawing and SOP
- Ensure fettling of components to achieve ‘as drawn’ features
- Part span or ident product as per specifications/instructions provided
- Provide rework rectification to any parts following machining mismatches to engineering drawings or should parts not meet Inspection standards
Accuracy of Paperwork
- Provide accurate cycle time for all products with operations required
- Cross check the prior operations on job cards ensuring they are completed prior to starting any operations and alert Team Lead if any variances
- Report and complete non-conformance reports for any product that does not meet specification
- Provide accurate information for the next shift if any deviation to production schedule to ensure production targets are achieved
General
- Work with a minimum amount of supervision whilst maintaining expected levels of productivity
- Continually review working practices to remove and reduce waste and non- value added activities
- Actively support and contribute to continuous improvement and lean manufacturing
- Positively support team work and circulation of experience within the workforce
Housekeeping, Health and Safety
- Undertake daily checks and maintain air tools/equipment as per work instructions provided reporting any failures or corrective maintenance requirements whilst maintaining responsibility for secure storage of tools in tool box
- Work in a safe manner in compliance with the Health & Safety policy. Report and log all Health & Safety incidents that occur
- Maintain good housekeeping in work area
- Support implementation and compliance of 6S in work area
Other duties may be assigned as the business progresses
Position Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Demonstration of basic numeracy to read measuring equipment
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings
- Relevant experience or an industry qualification demonstrating use of power/air tools and bench/fettle processes
- Working experience within manufacturing environment or similar environment
- Competency demonstrated in use of an MRP system like SAP or similar operating system
- Working knowledge of specifications, SOP’s and Work Instructions
