PURPOSE:
Under limited supervision, performs all tasks required to remove wax from molds in preparation of mold for foundry.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Prepares mold for autoclave/dewax process per written schedules and/or instructions.
- Sets and maintains proper oven temperatures.
- Inserts molds into oven or autoclave in approved position for wax run out. Carefully removes steel rods from dewaxed molds.
- Applies Kaowool wrap per written instructions.
- Cleans and patches the molds as required and places on storage racks.
- Maintains work area and equipment in clean and orderly condition. Follows prescribed safety rules and policies.
- Works from simple formulae to mix and prepare slurries, and adjust for proper viscosity as required.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Melt out and cure shell molds following methods and procedures. Requires the use of some judgment to comply with prescribed operational procedures, regulate and check furnace, maintain proper time cycles, mix ingredients accurately to ensure the slurries have the correct composition.
- Considerable physical effort in handling shells. Equivalent to frequently lifting or moving heavy weight material up to 35 lbs.
- Continuous mental or visual attention in handling shells operating furnace, maintaining prescribed time temperature cycles, preparing slurries and inspecting to ensure proper coating and drying.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
- Reports directly to the Shell Supervisor.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- 12-18 months experience
- Use ordinary arithmetic. Work from schedules, written procedures, instructions. Comply with time temperature cycles. Use gauges and controls involving interpretation.
