The technical lead will be required to anticipate risks, form contingency plans, and address these with technical solutions as applicable. Additionally, the candidate will be tasked with simplifying our application’s codebase by adhering to design patterns, refactoring complex or poorly designed code, and ensuring robust code integration practices. Finally, this candidate must be able to lead by example and integrate seamlessly into a division of highly responsible & psychologically safe team members.
About the Team:
The Electronic Miscellaneous Document (EMD) team at United Airlines is a 30-person division responsible for a complex system at the heart of the Commercial IT department. EMDs serve as the source of truth for the carriage and service contracts of United Airlines passengers, and as a result, are integral to the airlines daily operations. Our 40+ applications directly support Uniteds ability to identify, track, and process revenue-related transactions, and are a backend input to all of our customer- and agent-facing systems such as DotCom, Mobile, Navigator, Jet, and many more.

This role requires the ability to make direct connections between business processes and system architectures, as well as anticipating impacts beyond EMD’s domain.

· Providing guidance, coaching, and mentorship to fellow developers.
· Developing strategies for employee training & growth.
· Representing the development team in cross-team meetings, including project design discussions, troubleshooting sessions, and evaluations of new tools.
· Driving decisions and collaborating with other stakeholders to determine how features and projects should be implemented.

· Providing assistance and strategic insights to Project Leads, Project Managers, and Business Analysts in project planning and execution
· Acting as a conduit between the technical team and management, effectively communicating progress, risks, and mitigation strategies
· Advocating for a “shift-left” testing approach by promoting the automation of test scripts within CICD pipelines, emphasizing unit testing, adhering to security standards, and reinforcing this mindset across the team
· Conducting system and integration testing
· Identifying potential risks, devising contingency plans, and resolving issues with innovative technical solutions
· Reducing the complexity of our code within our applications by following design patterns, refactoring convoluted code or outdated design, and removing unnecessary code
· Ensuring the health of EMD as part of a larger ecosystem
· Demonstrating exceptional communication skills that foster a culture of collaboration, personal and team excellence, and articulate, concise dialogue.
· Aiding in the technical documentation and knowledge transfer on the team
· Aligning EMD to the company vision of CICD pipelines, AWS configurations, and Infrastructure As Code principles.
