Position Summary:

Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment as well as production machines and equipment under constant supervision by performing the following duties.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

• Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
• Disassembles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
• Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
• Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
• Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
• Repairs or replaces defective parts in hydraulic equipment such as valves, motors, cylinders and pumps; conditioning equipment such as grinding and abrasive blast machines; mobile hydraulic equipment; and other plant equipment as designated by supervisor.
• Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
• Lubricates and cleans parts.
• Starts devices to test their performance.
• Daily inspection and record keeping of various pieces of plant equipment.

Required Skills:

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, mechanical drawings, manufacturers literature, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of supervisors or managers.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Monitor equipment operating conditions and keep records of those conditions.
• Use of hand tools.

Experience & Education

• Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms Regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Regularly exposed to airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, extreme heat and vibration where LOTO and PPE must be used.
• Occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

• Manufacturing and laboratory environments. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.
