Job Title: Field Service Technician – Autonomous Airport Inspection Systems

Job Description

The Field Service Technician will provide on-site technical support, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting for autonomous airport inspection robots. This position combines hands-on work with advanced automation, electrical, and mechanical systems, while serving as a key technical contact for customers at major airports. The role suits an independent, customer-focused professional with strong technical skills and the ability to communicate clearly and proactively with clients and internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Install, test, commission, and maintain autonomous inspection equipment at airports, primarily in Atlanta and Dallas, with occasional international travel to other locations.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and software issues on autonomous robotic systems and related equipment.
  • Perform detailed testing and troubleshooting of PLCs, control systems, and associated components to ensure reliable operation.
  • Provide technical support and hands-on training to customers on system usage, operation, and basic troubleshooting procedures.
  • Use diagnostic tools, schematics, and service manuals to identify root causes of technical issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Document all service activities, including work performed, parts used, test results, and recommendations, in clear and accurate service reports.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to communicate field issues, suggest product improvements, and support ongoing development.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of product functionality, software updates, control system changes, and relevant industry trends.
  • Support remote diagnostics and technical assistance when needed, using appropriate tools and communication channels.
  • Work independently in the field with minimal supervision, managing schedules, travel, and customer expectations professionally.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience as a field service engineer, field service technician, or in a similar technical service role.
  • Experienced in automation, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related technical field; relevant hands-on experience may substitute for formal education.
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and software-related issues.
  • Proficiency using diagnostic tools, schematics, wiring diagrams, and service manuals to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
  • Experience with PLCs and control systems, including testing and troubleshooting of control hardware and software.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills in maintenance technician or similar roles involving complex automated systems.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical users.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a high standard of quality and safety.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively between customer sites and training locations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with remote diagnostics and remote support tools for technical troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with automation or aviation industry environments and associated standards and practices.
  • Experience working with autonomous systems, robots, or advanced automated equipment.
  • Knowledge of software configuration and integration with PLCs and control systems.
  • Multilingual abilities that support communication with international teams and customers.
  • Prior experience working in airport, industrial, or similarly regulated operational environments.
  • Formal education in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, automation, or a related discipline is beneficial.
