Position Summary
Plan, construct, alter, and repair a wide variety of tools, dyes, fixtures, and machinery where accurate relationship and fitting requires maintenance of very close tolerances. Perform all duties necessary to the efficient operation of all equipment in the plant.
Responsibilities
Must be able to operate all tool room equipment, such as lathes, milling machines, grinding machines, etc.
Construct tools, jogs, fixtures, and special machines from drawings or where there is little or no design available
Use those constructed tools to diagnose and correct problems
Set-up and operate all tool room equipment, including but not limited to a mill lathe, CNC equipment and EDM
Be willing to attend training courses in job related topics and equipment, to then communicate that training to others
Must use constant care in safety precautions when constructing, altering, or debugging special machinery
Actively participate in department and process team activities and projects
Other duties may be assigned at a later time
Must be capable of following and meeting standard work requirements
Must be able to use computer programs to assist in recording data, making labels, printing tooling layouts, obtaining prints and specifications, printing ship-sets, etc.
Promote positive teamwork
Able to foster professionalism with all associates along with internal and external customers
Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures in a manner that eliminates risk to health and the environment. Notify leadership of unsafe conditions or practices unlawful activities and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk. Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to leadership immediately.
Participate in peer-based teams (i.e., Natural High Performance Teams), and work with groups to initiate and implement programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5-S.
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED
Successful completion of a 4-year formal apprenticeship program (Journeyman Toolmaker)
3-5 years of post-Journeyman Toolmaker experience preferred
5-7 years of related experience is a strong plus
EDM experience desired
Limited heat treating and welding desired
Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Sound decision making skills
Good math, reading and writing skills
Be able to exercise continuous mental, visual and audio attention
Basic computer skills
Vision: Near acuity and accommodation for reading information to perform job tasks
