Sr. MES Engineer

Job Description:

DPP is seeking a Senior MES Engineer for direct hire opportunity in Raleigh, NC.

Role Overview

We have a Senior MES Engineer opportunity available in Raleigh, NC. This role is a client-facing, engineering-focused Solutions Architect position within a consulting environment and requires demonstrated technical proficiency in the design and configuration of MES solutions, including integration to Level 2 and Level 4 systems.
This position interacts directly with customers and leads internal engineering resources in identifying requirements, evaluating MES platforms, developing specifications, and implementing, testing, commissioning, and qualifying MES solutions.
The Senior MES Engineer is a leadership role within the business unit and requires strong problem-solving ability, well-balanced people skills, an aptitude for business efficiency, and an interest in building long-term customer partnerships. Success in this role is demonstrated by delivering technically sound solutions and contributing to long-term customer relationships and repeat engagements.

Technical & Solution Architecture Responsibilities

This position requires the ability to deliver innovative MES solutions and design standards either independently or as a technical leader of a project team. The Senior MES Engineer acts as a Solution Architect, with the ability to conceptualize, detail, and implement MES solutions for industrial processes and machinery that meet customer requirements.
Responsibilities include developing an MES strategy that integrates process knowledge, equipment design, quality and regulatory standards, and information technology systems to support efforts to reduce downtime, align solutions with applicable regulatory requirements, and enable efficiency gains through effective use of available technologies. This role is engineering-focused (not analyst-focused) and requires deep hands-on technical expertise in MES system design.

Project Delivery & Execution
This position frequently includes project delivery responsibilities such as:

Developing project execution plans, work breakdown structures, and associated budgets
Task prioritization, scheduling, and sequencing
Time tracking, financial tracking, and reporting
Early problem identification and resolution
Conflict management and escalation
Participation in project status meetings

The Senior MES Engineer may oversee daily operations and activities of projects up to $1M and plays a key role in driving successful project outcomes, including schedule, quality, and overall delivery performance.

Leadership & Mentorship

Acts as technical lead on projects and guides lower-level engineers and technicians
Leads and supports project-based engineering teams delivering MES solutions
Mentors less experienced engineers
May act as Project Manager on smaller engagements as needed

Work Environment & Travel

Raleigh, NC office presence is required
When not at a client site, the role is based in the Raleigh office and works within a collaborative team environment
Travel is typically local to client sites, with occasional travel to other locations within a customer’s manufacturing network
Ability to travel up to 25

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Education

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Applied Sciences required
Experience
Greater than 7 years of experience with capabilities in the areas below preferred
MES and Life Sciences experience
MES solution deployment experience including, but not limited to, Rockwell PharmaSuite, PASX, Syncade, Apprentice, Sepasoft, or POMS
Proven experience across all phases of MES projects: conceptual design, basis of design, implementation, testing, start-up, and commissioning in the Life Sciences industry
Familiarity with regulatory requirements such as cGMP and 21 CFR Part 11
Demonstrated proficiency designing and implementing integrated EBR recipes using GAMP5, S88, and S95 standards

Systems Integration & Architecture

Understanding of manufacturing processes and system configuration with the ability to make informed recommendations on optimal system design
Understanding of warehouse and inventory management within a GMP facility
Experience integrating MES with ERP, SCADA/Historian, QMS, LIMS, and CMMS systems
Strong knowledge of historian technologies and reporting systems
Experience with relational databases such as SQL and Oracle
Experience designing both onpremise and cloud-based architectures

Leadership & Communication

Experience leading teams of engineers and technicians delivering MES solutions
Experience mentoring less experienced engineers
Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
