We are seeking a Principal Engineer to be part of our System Analysis group in Windsor Locks, CT. In this key role, you will perform and lead systems engineering analysis, focusing on architecting, sizing, and developing advanced models to analyze both steady state and transient performance of 0D/1D thermal fluid systems.
As a Principal Engineer, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, customers, and management to define, review, and refine critical system performance requirements that drive the system design and development process. You’ll be responsible for breaking down and negotiating requirements across system components, including the system controller, ensuring the system’s steady-state and dynamic transient performance are well-understood and aligned with the needs of all stakeholders.

What You Will Do
Perform analysis to independently architect, size, and design thermal fluid systems and the associated process controls for heating, cooling, and ventilation of aircraft thermal environments.
Formulates conceptual design of thermal fluid products or systems developing lower-level requirements to meet customer requirements and business objectives, with emphasis on reliability.
Develops advanced mathematical models or other methods of computer analysis to develop, evaluate, or modify design, according to customer engineering requirements.
Performs system level analyses of thermal fluid systems and prepare technical reports of findings and recommendations.
Creates and implements common procedures and standard work across the organization.
Collaborate with customers to establish specifications, performs analysis, and plan performance testing in system laboratories as well as aircraft flight test.
Analyze test results for consistency with performance predictions and compliance to system requirements
Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
Qualifications We Prefer
A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Computer Science is preferred.
Experience with Modelica language (preferred) for system modeling and simulation.
Experience in thermal fluid systems analysis, with the ability to independently architect, size, and design systems for heating, cooling, and ventilation, especially in aerospace applications.
Ability to develop advanced mathematical models or utilize other computer analysis methods to evaluate, modify, or improve designs based on customer engineering requirements.

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
