Job Description:

The Opportunity: As the Database Administrator, you are responsible for the installation, configuration, upgrade, administration, monitoring, maintenance and security of the databases installed at Sunwing Travel Group in MS Azure on IaaS and PaaS solutions. The role includes the development and design of database strategies, system monitoring and improving database performance and capacity, and planning for future expansion requirements as well as plan, coordinate and implement security measures to safeguard the databases. What You’ll Do: Manage SQL Server and Snowflake databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.Assist in migration of SQL Server instances to Azure PaaS from Azure IaaS solutions.Investigate and resolve Database issuesConfigure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.Test backups to ensure we can meet the business’ Recovery Time Objectives (RTO)Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end, including after-hours and weekendsApply data modeling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectationsUpgrade MS SQL Server environment to the latest versions and patchesDeploy database change scripts provided by third party vendorsWhen performance issues arise, determine the most effective way to increase performance including hardware purchases, server configuration changes, or index/query changesDocument the company’s database environment as well as operational procedures and processes.Design and write complex SQL Server scripts to automate database management tasks where possibleProvide after hours On Call Support as required as you will be the person the company would call if the SQL Server service stopped working.Ensure that new database code meets company standards for readability, reliability, and performanceMaintain, implement and develop reports showing usage, metrics and consumption of dba resources and suggest ways to improve performance on eachDesign indexes for existing applications, choosing when to add or remove indexesAssist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinementConduct SQL Server lunch-and-learn sessions for developersAdvise developers on the most efficient database designs (tables, datatypes, stored procedures, functions, etc) What You’ll Need:Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or 5 years of equivalent experience in the Administration of Databases on premises and in Azure.5 years or more experience in:Tuning T-SQL queries to improve performanceMS SQL Server Installation and Configuration for Stand-Alone and clustered instancesWriting SSIS PackagesWorking with Windows Server (all versions) including Active Directory, Partitioning, Disk ConfigurationArchitecture, SQL Server Backup and Restore concepts and with SQL Server toolsGood understanding of Data Modeling, RDBMS Concepts, Cloud Data Warehouse ConceptsExperience with and/or good understanding of Azure Analysis Services, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Dedicated SQL Pool and SnowflakeBe an effective team player, with ability to be flexible and adaptable when dealing with changeAble to juggle multiple tasks, tight deadlines and changing priorities.Strong communication and relationship building skills.
